Record numbers for the port of Sines in 2022
The Port of Sines ended 2022 with the best results ever. This was due, in part, to the increase in container traffic, which grew by 11%.
The port of Sines moved 4.9 million TEU in 2022, an 11% increase over 2021. This growth was driven by the increase in container traffic (+6.7%) and the increase in general cargo traffic (28.9%).
The increase in container traffic was mainly due to the increase in transshipment operations. In 2022, the transshipment operations increased by 22%.
The importance of the port of Sines is due to a combination of factors: its strategic location, its size, and its modern and efficient facilities. With a total area of 2,600 hectares, the port has 6,500 meters of draft and 5,000 meters of quay.
The port of Sines is one of the most important in Europe. It is the third busiest container port in the Iberian Peninsula and the 17th in Europe. The port of Sines is also a major player in the transshipment of goods between Europe and Asia.
